Gonna play this version for the first time!

Post by Fiend Busa » Wed Oct 16, 2013 4:29 pm

Hey everyone, so I own every version of NG except for this since I never had a xbox 360 (only have an original xbox and ps3)

So since X1 is coming out soon I managed to get a 360 for $80 and picked up NG2 but it won't be arrive for another week :/

Just wondering how different is this from NGS2 aside from the blood

I know that the boss grabs are much much faster in this version compared to NGS2 slow mo grabs and the ninjas spam IS like crazy!

Anything else that is different?

You'll be fighting a lot more enemies at the same time, you only play as Ryu, you can upgrade weapons as many times as you like at stores, swimming in the Lycanthrope stage, UTs with the bow, enemies lose limbs easier. Oh and there is a worm boss in the jungle chapter.

On MN Blood Gajas and Fiend Ninjas won't die from a full combo into Izuna Drop. Not sure about other difficulties.

But it costs a fair amount of cash.
ryu hayabusa wrote:I also heard that volf randomly charges when you fighting him head on 0.0
Not sure about randomly but you can see/hear him about to do so it's not like there's no warning.

I always found Volf's constant charging to be his biggest weakness. Just dash out the way when he's about to hit you and get him with any powerful combo you want. He goes down pretty easily. :laugh2:

Also, I thought Fiend Mages would die from one FS>ID with the Claws? I'm pretty certain they do in ToV1 at least, as long as your claws are level 3?

Yeah they do, but I wasn't counting the Mages as Fiend Ninjas for whatever reason

Prepare for faster, more insane, and more adrenaline-pumping fights.

Oh, and watch out for Ch 11. :anxious:

There's a lot that's different, the whole game is balanced completely different.

Ryu is a little quicker, enemies are a little quicker, there are a ton of enemies but with less health and they delimb more easily, the damage ratios on MN aren't quite so crazy (but there's so many more enemies, you're much more likely to take hits), IS ninjas have MUCH less health but appear in large groups and spam IS like crazy.

Ryu can charge UTs with projectile weapons, but can't walk while aiming the bow. You don't get the 'Cannon' weapon, but you can carry Incendiary Shurikens and you get the Windmill Shuriken. Windmill Shuriken UT is pretty damn strong.

You don't automatically pick up ninpo or Lives of the Thousand Gods, so you can play the whole game with no ninpo meter if you want (the empty claw at the end of your life bar looks pretty badass IMO... :laugh2: ). You can also horde the Lives of the Thousand Gods, to use later or to play the whole game with the original life bar (when people talk about playing with OLB, this is what they mean). You can upgrade weapons whenever you want.

Enma's Fang and girl's chapters don't exist. Mission mode is a DLC (if you bought the greatest hits version of NG2 new it should come with a code for it) that includes survival mode. It's all single player. Some missions are similar to NGS2 team missions, many are different.

There is no chapter select, but there is New Game+, where you keep all your weapons and ninpo, but they are all reduced to level 1, and all your life/ninpo upgrades and items are stripped away. There is also Successive Play, where you carry everything over from when you beat the game- money, items, maxed weapons, etc.

This is my favorite modern NG game, the large amounts of enemies with low health make it really fast-paced and BRUTAL. Hope you enjoy!

You can also get 10 ki slots by going through new game plus, not sure if that was possible in Sigma 2.

No, it's all 1 DLC.

16 missions with Acolyte, Warrior, Mentor and Master Ninja difficulty, and then 8 survival missions (one for each melee weapon) where the difficulty increases the further you can get. (Survival is very difficult- just finishing the Acolyte round takes a lot of skill and strategy.)

Actually on that note, the missions are mostly all different from NGS2 as well. Not as good IMO but survival is excellent.

Oh yeah, this version also has the Tests of Valor.

When you get to the courtyard of the Hayabusa village in Chapter 2 (right near the room where you find the Talons), keep fighting the enemies until they stop coming and you can get the Rod of Trials from the altar. The Rod of Trials will let you access the ToV portals in Chapter 3 - 11.

I agree with MG. Soooo much better than NGS2. It is hard to go back to playing NGS2 after playing NG2. It just seems boring. I mean, I'm still afraid of IS ninjas, especially when they come in hoards, and especailly when they are the undead versions.

Oh man, the staircase is epic! NInja bowling is one event. But, you can rack up 300+ hit combos by chaining UTs. It slows down to ultra slo-mo and limbs go flying everywhere. Awesome place for the Flails or Tonfa.
